There are so many animals being abused and suffering immensely everyday. Many times the focus is placed on the dogs and cats that are abused, but in reality there are many other animals who need to be rescued. There are many people out there who dedicate their lives to saving animals and providing safe havens, making the world aware of animal cruelty, fighting for these causes and acting as guardians for creatures without a voice or without any power.
Catherine Smith and her husband are making a difference by creating a sanctuary of their own:
I set the site up last year to document the next 5 years when me and my husband David save, research and eventually start an animal sanctuary. We are based on the Central Coast in NSW, Australia. We plan to take in many kinds of animals, with a focus on farmed animals like spent battery hens, unwanted dairy calves (the males are not needed by the industry) and of course the many unwanted pet rabbits that so many children get at Easter and quickly grow bored of.
The sanctuary will also be an education center where children can come and learn to treat animals with compassion. Because we are in the research/planning/saving stage at the moment I am also using the website as a way to put animal rights news out there.
As I research the care of various animals and look into ways I can help animals I am also sharing these things on the site. Hopefully it will be a valuable resource to anyone who wants to help animals, or start an animal sanctuary. Learn more at their website: StartanAnimalSanctuary.com
There are real atrocities going on all over the world with cruelty to all types of animals.
Farm animal treatment is a major issue these days, for many are mistreated and it is important for us to become aware of these issues and do all we can to help fight these causes. Testing in labs using animals is yet another major problem area. And let's for forget how thousands of animals are killed to make shoes, purses and belts for the exotic skins trade.
Places like Sea World cannot be forgotten, where whales are being held in captivity in tiny pools just for the enjoyment of humans, which is real abuse itself, imagine if you were placed in a 2x2 closet to live your life? That is the equivalent for these mighty animals. And, more horrors in Canada with the shameful slaughter of seals.
From monkeys to zebras to pet kittens and dogs, many animals are mistreated and abused and people need to stand up take notice and fight for animals rights.
Jane Valez Mitchell, of the television news show, Issues with Jane Valez Mitchell shown nightly on CNN, addresses these problems and is helping to fight animal cruelty nationwide. Look at some of the cruelty to animals that is taking place with videos from her show:

What horrible attorcities are commited against animals, I will make a donation today
I cannot believe that people can be so cruel, it’s really uspetting.
Watching those videos really upset me, I too will make a donation to my local SPCA today.
I volunteer at a local shelter and some of the animals that come in are so obviously abused, and it’s really tragic, I love all animals, and cannot imagine how anyone could do such things.
Great post, and thanks for raising the awareness to these types of issues.
