This is Miles McFarland Ordway, THE coolest Irish Red and White Setter who ever lived. He loves to play, and lick faces and of course he is a total attention hound, in reality, there should be a special breed for Miles, called Attention Hound, lol.
All though he does not officially belong to me, I visit him every Sunday at my boyfriends parents house, Janet and Lee Ordway. They are really brave, as they have an additional Irish Red and White Setter, called Molly Malone as well as an Irish Setter named Maggie Mae, pictured below and of course featured in the header of this website! Miles, who all though gets along with his pals, exhibits a special kind of sensitivity as he is very jealous of anyone who is getting attention while he is not. He will bark very loudly when my boyfriend hugs me and pushes the other dogs out of the way when I am petting them, gotta love him!
Molly, pictured below, is very swee
t, and not at all hyper like Miles, and she loves attention too, though she does not shove others out of the way to get it like Miles does. If I call Molly up to the couch she will jump up and snuggle with me and keeps me warm, very sweet and a great dog to keep you warm on those cold winter nights.
Of course, Mrs. Ordway and Mr. Ordway are quite tired as these three big dogs, and especially the boistrous Miles keeps them and especially the Mrs. quite busy and as most Irish Red and White Setter owners know, this is a usual state of affairs.
Overall, these are wonderful dogs, loving, friendly, active, happy and sweet. They make great companions for the whole family and especially children.

History of Irish and White Setters
In the 1850’s, the Irish Red and White Setter, often called the Parti-colored Setter nearly became extinct. This valuable type of Setter flourished once more because of the endeavours of the people who loved the breed. Besides the trademark red and white shaded finely textured coat, the Irish Red and White Setter is known because of its powerful, strong and athletic body. His or her eyes are rounded, convey a lot of affection, sensitivity and personality and are hazel or dark brown in color. They've got a thick tail which tapers from the root to the tip. The sign of breed purity is black spots on the roof of the mouth.
Breed Group
This dog belongs to the British Dog Breeds in the group of Gundog, also sometimes referred to as Sporting.
Irish Red and White Setter Personality
Irish Red and White Setters are full of energy, smart and loving. Several could be tough to train and are fast to pick up bad habits, therefore, the dogs have to be trained while very young. They're, nonetheless, great with kids and get along well with other house pets, even cats! Irish Red and White Setters are very fast runners and have an elevated sense of smell. This hardy doggy can tolerate any type of terrain and all kinds of climates.
The Hunter
The Irish Red and White Setters used to be bred mainly for hunting. Now, Irish Red and White Setters still hunt, but they're also bred to perform in dog shows and make ideal family pets, companions and great watchdogs.
Size, Weight and Height
They are on average large dogs, though some medium sized ones exist as well. They are 22- 26 inches long, and weight in at about 50- 75 pounds.
Coloring
They base color of the Irish Red and White Setter is always white with blotches and patches of red, this is their unique trademark.
Activity Needs
Being an extremely energetic breed, Irish Red and White Setters need a lot of exercise. Essentially, Setters ought to be permitted to run free no less than once every day. If that is not something that is feasible then take the dog upon long walks each day. For this reason such dogs require a sizable living space, a plentiful backyard and lots of room to groove.
Grooming
Aside from their distinct colors of red and white, Irish Red and White Setters are known for having long, straight, flat and quite silky hair, specifically at the back of both legs, the outer ear flap and on its flank. The hair on all other parts of this dog's body should be short and flat and free from curls. Providing regular baths and brushing of the coat can help sustain and enhance the vibrant and silky coat that is so special about this dog.
Medical Issues
Life expectancy is about 11- 15 years. They are apt to overeat and grow big, it is advised that they only be fed 2 or 3 small meals a day instead of giving them one big meal. The Irish Red and White Setter is also prone to, Progressive Retinal Atrophy(PRA) and elbow and/or hip dysplasia. In addition to these, if the ears are not paid attention to they may become susceptible to otitis that makes them very irritable.
