List of Breeds of Dogs by Group with Pictures

The English Kennel Club is the ruling body that approves or turns down the breeds that fall into the British dog breeds category and is also responsible for registering the breeds that fall under the pedigree dog classification. They have established certain groups that categorize dog breeds by certain characteristics that they share.

Gundog Group

These are the hunting breeds of dogs, under the British Dog Group classification.

The Hound Group

Among this group are some of the oldest breeds of dogs in the world, these dogs evolved to aid man in their pursuit of chasing game. Many of the dogs depicted in the Ancient Egyptians tombs of Pharaohs and ancient art fall into this group.

The Pastoral Group

A new group to the British dog breeds, that came into effect in 1999, in order to break up the very large working group that had so many breeds classified under it.

The Terrier Group of Dog Breeds

The Toy Group - Small Breed Dogs
